I go to college in US and everyday I am faced with the Humanities and Social Sciences departments being highly Euro-centric/white and treating other cultures as optional topics to discuss and teach to students. However, I find it quite ironic considering the fact that most of the trends and lifestyles present in the American society come from other cultures that are not white. Other cultures are used just for profit to the point of exploitation, but are not recognized as 'suitable' for the core curriculum of a history book.
The storyline is the same for many movies. Queen & Slim and Richard Jewell seem to have the same storyline as Divergent and The Gauntlet with Sandra Locke. Abuse of power by the government. Does it matter if the victim is of Sandra Locke's profession or Richard Jewell's o? Does it matter the race of those involved. Is not the story that Government power corrupts. The Government bullies pick on those who they can. The Government bully never looks for a fair fight. Queen&Slim and Richard Jewell fans need to bridge the divide.
