This year’s prize has been awarded to the British author of The Remains of the Day and Never Let Me Go.
Any thoughts on the award?
Here there is an interview of him : https://www.theguardian.com/books/2017/oct/05/kazuo-ishiguro-wins-the-nobel-prize-in-literature
Thanks so much for sharing, Rina! I've read Ishiguro's "Never Let Me Go," and I think the award was well-deserved, especially for a minority author (and as he mentions, in this international world of ours). What do you think?
I am happy that he received it, however I feel like there is an emphasis on him being a British writer. It's like the British media (and I'm assuming the society in general) only cares about the minorities when they become prominent in their respective fields. Suddenly, they HAVE to accentuate one's British citizenship; the individual becomes the honour of the society.
