London’s red double-decker buses faced a major change last week with the replacement of pollution-heavy diesel engines with something more environment-friendly: coffee grounds. On Monday, small amounts of oil produced from coffee grounds were introduced to the mix of biofuels in the atmosphere.
According to Biobean, the company that produces these fuels, this change is meant to prevent the city’s pollution levels from increasing, as well as combat the city’s health crisis. The first batch of coffee-based oil would be enough to run one bus for a year.
How do you think technology and cultural/environmental consciousness play a role in this decision?
