    Why?

Why do people take drugs if they know it is bad for them?

I think people mostly underestimate the threat that drugs can have on the body, especially when they are originally used for medicinal purposes. An example would be someone taking fentanyl for pain treatment and steadily growing a tolerance and dependence without realizing it. For teenagers, I think it's mostly because of doubt and curiosity. They tend to be rebellious and the way drugs are taught about in school might come off as heavy-handed. For the people who are completely aware of the effects, they take a risk to get the high so that they can escape from the stress and trauma of their lives (i.e. economic anxiety, family, mental health, abuse). Of course, I'm not an expert.

I think most people take drugs because #1: they may have been prescribed them by a doctor and have developed a dependency on them, which usually leads them to turn to cheaper drugs (like heroin) and #2: because they were uninformed and make a bad mistake which has resulted in them having a drug addiction. Although addicts are not perfect people who are completely innocent, I think that we should keep in mind theat they're human, and we all make mistakes which lead us into difficult situations.
