Trump's Silence on Duterte's Drug War

As Trump ends his visit to Asia, he arrived in the Philippines on Sunday. One of the issues American lawmakers are urging Trump to address is the extrajudicial killings caused by Duterte's war on drugs, which has been going on for over a year. According to the Washington Post, Trump allegedly told Duterte that he's doing an “unbelievable job on the drug problem” in a private phone call. Should Trump address the issue? What does Trump's public silence say about his position on anti-drug campaign in general?

CNN contributor and science guru Dr. Sanjay Gupta did a special segment on Sunday, "Weed 4: Pot vs. Pills," detailing the medicinal benefits of cannabis, particularly as it pertains to avoiding and treating addition to opiate-based painkillers. In it, he speaks to drug abusers who use weed to combat their addiction. One football player even said that marijuana being a gateway drug was a myth. In the linked article, Sanjay describes how using prescribed opiates to reduce pain can become "a vicious cycle." Do you think marijuana can, or should, be used to solve the opiate epidemic?
