The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is an American immigration policy founded by the Obama administration. It allows illegal immigrants who entered the US as minors to have a two year period to defer them from being deported and makes them eligible for a work permit. The US Department of Homeland Security recently announced that the program's expansion will be rescinded and the Trump Administration is raising speculation about whether it will be kept.
Do you support the DACA? Why or why not?
I completely support DACA. Being a child of immigrants really open one's eyes to how the U.S immigration system works and its many complications. Since the program started in 2012, it has had a transformative impact on the lives of nearly 800,000 immigrant youth their communities. Terminating DACA has drastic consequences for the nearly 800,000 DREAMers whom the program allowed to work and live legally in the United States. DACA isn't perfect but rescinding it takes away the power to protect DREAMers and provide them a pathway to citizenship through the immediate and clean passage of S.1615/H.R.3440, The Dream Act of 2017
