Malpractice reform, also known as medical tort reform, refers to when an injured patient seeks compensation against their healthcare professional for the injury. This often falls under the legal category of negligence. Some individuals argue that it encourages healthcare professionals to practice defensive medicine. Many states have caps for "non-economic" damages for medical malpractice.
