This happened awhile ago but if you don't know what happened, basically Andy Murray is a male tennis player who corrected a reporter introducing him as "the first US player to reach a major semi-final since 2009"by interrupting with "male" as in he was the first male US player to reach a major semi-final since 2009. Ever since then Murray has been paraded around and applauded for being a male correcting a sexist comment. It's great that Murray did that and he has actually done some awesome things in regards to advocating for female tennis players (like calling for equal billing between the male and female players) but in terms of that interview, aren't we setting the bar a little low? It's the kind of thing that goes hand in hand of when we celebrate dads for watching their kids instead of going to work. I get that in times like these, every little step forward we can grab onto counts, but Murray correcting an incorrect fact is not enough for him to be applauded for all over the internet. It only goes to show how little action we expect of men in the fight for gender equality, when in truth we need both men and women to ever achieve it.
