Donald Trump declaring a national emergency is a horrible abuse of power. Our founding fathers put a division of powers in the constitution to prevent something like this from happening. The Department of Justice has sent a warning to the Trump administration that the president’s emergency declaration will most likely get blocked by the courts. There has been 16 states so far to file a lawsuit against the Trump Administration to challenge the emergency. The house voted 245-182 to overturn the presidents declaration. Thirteen republicans joined the democrats in that vote. Next the issue will go to the senate. If it passes the senate then it will go to the president. The president says he will veto it. In the event of a veto two thirds would be needed in each chamber to override the veto. In the meantime we have to come together as American people and bridge the divide of political parties to save America. What do you think the final result will be? Do you think the declaration of a national emergency was an abuse of power?

This does certainly seem to be a power grab by President Trump, which is alarming. There does also seem like there is a substantial bloc against him in both Congress and state governments. Ultimately, I think that the national emergency will not be declared but how that will bode in Congress is still up in the air. Although the House has a Democratic majority, the Senate has a Republican majority. I'm not sure if there will be enough votes from the Republicans in the Senate chamber when it is time to override Trump's veto.
